SOUTHERN-OCEAN MARINE

Accessibility

In line with our social commitment, Southern Ocean Marine is committed to making our website (southern-oceanmarine.com) accessible to all, regardless of their physical or intellectual abilities. Therefore, the group’s portal has been designed following the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA (Double-A):

  • Some components used to visually indicate selected elements (selected tabs, selected page in pagination, etc.) are only displayed in the Edge browser when browsing using high contrast (browsing using high contrast in Chrome and Firefox may not be displayed due to specific characteristics of the components and these browsers).
  • On a very rare occasion, some content overlaps when increasing the text size to 200%.

Measures Taken

Separation of Content and Presentation

  • Style sheets (CSS) are used to present information, and HTML code is used for valid content structuring.
  • The website’s visual elements, such as font, color, and background, are defined in style sheets so that the content can be adjusted based on your preferences.

Increasing and Decreasing Text Size

The font size has been defined in relative units so that it can be increased or decreased from the browser options or through the “Accessibility” option available on the website. This option allows, among other things:

  • Increase text
  • Decrease text
  • Grayscale
  • High contrast
  • Negative contrast
  • Light background
  • Underline links
  • Legible font
  • Reset preferences
  • Visit the site map

Content hierarchy

  • The content architecture has been defined following W3C guidelines, always providing appropriate markup for each type of content.
  • The user will be able to read the information perfectly with a screen reader. With this objective in mind, the section headings, lists, and all the elements that contribute to the overall understanding of the website have been defined through HTML code.

Contrast

  • Based on Southern Ocean Marine’s corporate image, the typography and colors used on this website have been defined and contrasted, ensuring that the information is presented clearly regardless of these conditions.
  • The website is designed to allow users to navigate in high contrast, allowing them to distinguish menus, links, images, and general content.
  • Using the “Accessibility” button, we can improve the contrast of non-text elements.

Keyboard Accessibility and Navigation

  • The site is accessible and functional using a computer keyboard. Using the tab key, you can navigate to any element on the different pages.
  • Users can navigate to a selected element and, by pressing “Enter” on their keyboard, perform the same action as if they were left-clicking.

Links

  • Most links have been configured based on their destination, providing users with the precise mechanisms that facilitate information and easy navigation throughout the website.

Forms

  • The contact and employment form fields have been designed so that navigation through the fields always follows a logical tab order.
  • Appropriate labels have been provided to facilitate understanding of the data.
  • Display of content in different types of browsers
  • If the user accesses the website through a browser that does not support CSS, the markup used allows for correct display of all content.

Technologies used in web development

  • Compliance with the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) accessibility standards, at the intermediate level (AA). Web Accessible Content Guidelines 2.1.
  • The presentation is based on the W3C Cascading Style Sheets Recommendation, version CSS3.
  • We use the recommended standard for HTML5 code, benefiting from the new updates included in this version, such as more semantic tagging, flexible syntax, and new tags that make forms easier to understand.

Exceptions

For the forms included in the contact section, ReCaptcha technology (Google Inc.) is used to prevent any future spam issues that may arise. However, in this case, there is an error with the textarea being used, to which we do not have access as we are a third-party provider. This error would be addressed by defining the appropriate aria-labelledby.
